Customer Information / Billing error in text messaging service

NorthernTel corrected a billing error that allowed customers to receive incoming text messages free from people outside their pre-defined list.

This error affected customers who subscribe to any of the following options:
  • Hi-5
  • Hi-5 Long-Distance
  • Shared features between members
The NorthernTel text message subscribers will only obtain free incoming text messages from members of their pre-designated list, from May 1, 2010. The messages from people other than members of this list will be charged at rate of $0.15 each unless the customer subscribes to a text messaging package.

This fixed billing, which will not be retroactive, will take effect as of May 1, 2010.
